GLOWING EMBER Reflections
…of our 3 glorious Fire Dance Parties…
For the past few months, I taught online YouTube LESSONS of Waltz, Swing & Polka. But this was my first test run of an ONLINE dance PARTY.
RESULTS:
Like most of us, my dancing skills have dropped WAYyyyyy down in last 7 months,
I’ve really I felt my energy dropping too… and a lot of other things.
:-o
So I NEED YOU, my real dancer friends
to give me inspiration to get up and dance.
And you DID!
After 3 one-hour dance parties I definitely felt my soul lifting to a higher plane of happiness sharing the dance hour with REAL people.
So let’s chase that happy feeling!
One- hour dances, repeating music and teaching a couple of easy choreographies
to our FAVORITE dance music contributed by YOU!
to Waltz/Swing/Chacha and more.
I appreciate your input as I’m experimenting with:
-- SCHEDULE I’m testing out different times find a SUSTAINABLE
(weekly?) schedule, so let me know which times may work for you
SUNDAY Sept 20
7 am –(yawn) good for international time zones
11 am – good for the rest of us?
FUTURE: later Sunday or Thursday morning?
-- PACING: alternating fast & slow songs
-- PARTNERING: SCW&S is all about PARTNER dancing.
In-person we rotate partners -- that’s the best part!
But online is trickier for partnering.
Those of you who have a partner at home
ENJOY it! you are LUCKY!
However, many of us SOLO dancers, MYSELF especially,
don’t have a HUMAN partner at home
(Bob is my great husband, but…sadly, not a motivated dancer)
So I’m finding my broom and mop make very good inanimate partners
And we’ll experiment to find enjoyable
(not too weird)
ways to partner in a zoom class.
-- PLAYLIST: Thanks to all 16 song contributors sending in 30+ song titles for “Our Favorite Waltz & Swing Music” list.
ALL are awesome songs I'm rotating through our dance parties.
The list will soon metastasize into several dance genre lists,
(Waltz, EC & WCSwing, NC 2-Step, Hustle, Country Western, etc)
giving us dancing delight for years to come.

Our first successful Santa Cruz Waltz & Swing online Dance Party woohooo!
For solo dancers (without a human dance partner) and couples.
Even with short notice, an elite coterie of dancers joined me on Labor Day Monday
for a rousing hour of waltz, foxtrot, Waltz Across Texas, and Cotton Eye Joe round dance,
to our playlist of Favourite Waltz & other Dance Songs.
Dance Party Reviews:
“That was so much fun! I’m all sweaty!”
“Thanks for putting on the Zoom dance. Best regards”
“It was a lot of fun, so thanks for the party time! I thought your music choices were great, and that the party was a gift. I liked your style of teaching and enthusiasm..and the music, and the company.
Of all the things I miss because of this pandemic, dancing is one of the things I miss the most. Thanks again for your gift of dance”
Thanks to Lois, Tom & Wendy, and Annette for joining!
A few others let me know they meant to join too, but regretfully missed.
SOoooooo…
to keep everyone happy and dancing….
I’m announcing two REPEATS of the same dance same theme & similar playlist
Sunday, Sept 13 --
7 - 8 am PST (WHAT??? a 7 am dance party?? yes, sounds crazy, but I have a lot of international friends from here to Tokyo I’m inviting, so 7 am PST = 5pm Addis Ababa time, 7:30pm Chennai Time and 11pm Tokyo Time.
and
2 – 3 pm PST (that sounds more reasonable, at least for us on the West Coast )
= 5pm New York / 10pm London/ 12:30 midnight India / 5am Beijing
NOTE: This is still a BETA experimental version of Waltz & Swing Dance Party…
In hopes of offering dance parties monthly or more often
So I welcome your input for how to make it as fun as possible.
(Pacing? Song suggestions? Themes? Schedule? Rules of etiquette?
How to mix around as dance “partners,” without it feeling tooooo weird?
DONATIONS
Thanks for 3 contributions so far to our CZU fire response nonprofits
(NOTE: the nonprofits are not keeping track of our donations, so let me know if you donate)

* Thanks to Gail for sending me this song -- "You Made Me Love You."
Al Jolson's jowly voice has been echoing in my head since Sunday's Fire Dance lifted my soul into a higher plane of happiness...
the first time since March 17 that I've SOCIAL danced sharing great music with real people..
Yowwwwwzaaaaa, Yowwwwwzaaa!!!!
